Shift Engineer - Class 2 Power Engineer

Based at our first class steam plant on the Port of Vancouver, we are hiring for a full-time, permanent, Second Class Power Engineer.  This position will involve shift work under a compressed work week (Averaging Agreement) for 12-hour rotational shifts.


  • Operate and maintain all steam plant equipment and thermal oxidizers, ensuring boilers and pressure parts comply with Technical Safety BC and Company standards

  • Perform routine maintenance on all equipment in the boiler room

  • Provide back-up relief of waste water and odour control systems operators during absences

  • Maintain a clean, tidy work site

  • Accurate record keeping of documentation such as shift logs

  • Provide troubleshooting for the general repair of systems and equipment

  • Suggest recommendations for improvements to equipment and processes

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Possession of a valid Class 2 Power Engineer Certificate required

  • Valid Class 1 Power Engineer Certificate a strong asset

  • Willingness to work under an averaging agreement that involves 12 hour rotational shifts

  • 5 years of experience in production environment or similar environment or industry

  • Prior experience in a leadership capacity preferred

  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, with strong communication skills

  • Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance

  • Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily

  • Adaptable to adverse conditions including confined space, heights, cold weather, odours and exposure to animal by-products
