Based at our first class steam plant on the Port of Vancouver, we are hiring for a full-time, permanent Chief Engineer.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the operation/maintenance of all steam plant systems and other facility equipment including thermal oxidizers, odour control equipment and waste water systems. As a key leadership position, the Chief Engineer is also accountable for supervision, performance management and training of direct reports.


  • Operation and maintenance of all steam plant and related facilities equipment, ensuring boilers and pressure parts comply with Technical Safety BC and Company standards

  • Perform routine maintenance on all equipment in the boiler room

  • Suggest recommendations for improvements to equipment and processes

  • Provide troubleshooting and problem-solving solutions for the general repair of plant systems and equipment to achieve production objectives

  • Lead emergency response and major incident investigations in relation to the steam plant

  • Participate in planning meetings to ensure department is operating safely and efficiently

  • Active people management of direct reports including payroll processing, scheduling, vacation approvals, performance management, training and recruitment

Ideal Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid BC Class 1 Power Engineer Certificate required or inter provincial equivalent

  • 7 years of progressive experience in a plant operation environment with exposure to production, maintenance, safety, environmental compliance, and administration

  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience for a steam plant or equivalent ticketed trade

  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, with strong communication skills

  • Ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures

  • Mechanically inclined and able to perform routine maintenance tasks

  • Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance

  • Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily
