Water quality and environment conservation are priorities at all
of our facilities.
Within our processes, many water streams are
recycled to minimized usage and discharges. Some of
our cleaned wastewater is even used to irrigate
farmer’s fields.
Wastewater from our
facilities is cleaned in primary
treatment systems before discharge to municipal sewers
for further treatment, or in secondary treatment systems
before being released to the
environment. Solids
recovered from our wastewater are recycled.
Protection of our marine
environment is also top
priority at our bulk oils shipping terminal. State of
the art equipment, and rigorous training and planning
minimize the risk of spills, and maximize preparedness
in the event of one.
Water releases from our
facilities are regulated by
provincial and municipal authorities. All of our
facilities hold permits or authorizations for these
discharges, which stipulate monitoring and reporting
requirements.
West Coast Reduction operates an ocean outfall in
Nanaimo, B.C. which, as a gift to the people of the
Nanaimo region and through an agreement with the
Regional District of Nanaimo, services not only our
Nanaimo facility, but also the Duke Point Industrial
Park and the community of Cedar, B.C. |
